Please give comments about center console Trophy Boats. I looked at one at the boat show and like it's lay out. I realize it's made by Bayliner, but would like feedback... good, bad or otherwise. THANKS :)

Re: Trophy Boats???

I posted this back about a month ago when someone like yourself asked me about Trophy boats.
I own a 96 1703 and it's a sound boat. It has a force 90 but I have yet to have any problems with it. Took it out in the ocean and it eats up waves. I use it now to troll for trout. Mounted a footcontrolled trolling moter to the front and a pedestal seat in the front so in the summer when I bass fish it's just like having a bass boat. As far as construction mine is made very well, all metal hardware in the water was tied together for better electrolisis insulation. Which any quality boat should have. Live well is great. Great storage capacity. Plenty of room for accessories. The only grip was that they didn't put latches on the back hatches so when you are trailering they fly open and your stuff flys out. But a bungie fixes that. Great boat and I would recomend it to anyone. As far as I can tell the boat is Bullet proof. No fading of gel coat, nothing has broken, I beat the hell out of my hull with no problems, even after a rough day in the ocean I used a remote camera and looked down into the hull to check for damage but found nun. Have beached it numerous times on rocks and sand and still have not torn up the hull. Of course mine in a 96 model but I would think they have only made improvements not not fall back on quality.

Just my opinion take it with a grain of salt.

Re: Trophy Boats???

I've never owned a Trophy, but I have a few friends who know a lot about fishing boats. They wouldn't recomend buying a Trophy. I think that Bayliner and Trophy have come a long way since being bought out by Brunswick - who also own Maxum and Sea Ray. I think now they are well built boats. But the only mistake Brunswick made, was keeping the names of Bayliner and Trophy. The boating community still thinks of Bayliner and Trophy as "bottom of the line". On the other hand, though, if this is going to be your first boat, and you plan on having it for more than 2 years, I don't think it would be a bad choice. The re-sale is the only time you may have a problem.

Re: Trophy Boats???

Hey Ziggy (As in Stardust or are you too young for that?)

I have a brochure for the Trophy boats. They are a different animal than Bayliner. Much better built. All glass stringers.

I looked hard at the 1802 cuddy W/A and it was a sound boat. I wouldn't say top of the line but a nice boat at a reasonable price.

They say you get what you pay for and I think thats correct. They are a middle of the line boat, not a Whaler but not a Bayliner either.

One other thing I use to judge a boat is the max HP allowed.(I may be incorrect in using this) but the better built boats of same size allow higher HP.

I think it is a good boat with a good price! (Re-sale not so good)

Check them out on the web! http://www.trophyfishing.com/showroom/sshowroom.html

Good Luck ;)

Ziggy,

I think they've come a long way too. I checked them out at the last boat show also, like what I saw.

I would be concerned about resale value. Old perceptions die hard. Brunswick is going through the same thing Bombardier is entering into.
