Yes, but it differs with conditions and species.

Re: Trolling speed......

I've had good luck trolling for Pike on Lake Champlain at 1.5 mph with spinnerbaits. Walleye during the spring runs seem to take crankbaits in the 1.5 - 2 mph range, but I haven't really tried fishing them any faster or slower.

Most folks troll for walleye pretty slowly...1.5-2 mph. That speed will also catch northerns, but northerns will also hit a bait trolled much faster than that. It all depends, I guess on what speed give the proper action to the bait being used. Spinnerbaits work pretty well at low speed.

Re: Trolling speed......

Walleyes for me is a slow drift with live bait during the day and slow troll at night. I have learned from some of my partners who hunt the gator and PIke that a fast speed 4-5mph with quick zigzag cuts trigger the larger predators in the hot summer days

Fall is the time to bring the 12 inchers out and troll 3-5mph.
