Re: trolling mount transducer

MY buddy had one but where we go he was always knocking it on rocks and trees. It hangs the lowest so most vulnerable. Mine is on the transom and i just offset the depth for the motors.

There are pros and cons for every position.

They work OK there, but now you have the extra wires in the way.

I took the puck type transducer that came for that and epoxied it to the aluminum hull under the floor boards of my aluminum boat and it probably works the best out of all my boats various transducer installations.

Re: trolling mount transducer

You can buy trolling motor transducer mounts right here on iBoats. It is a clamp arrangement and they work just as well on the troller as they do anywhere else on the boat. If you happen to have a MinnKota Power Drive motor, there are some cable routing tricks you need to know about and I can provide pictures of how that process works. If you have a sissor type mount then you simply zip tie the transducer cable to the motor shaft. It is not in the way.

Please provide pics. I was thinking of doing the same thing.

Thanks,

Somehow I just knew the request for pictures was coming. This search took about 20 seconds. The key words are "trolling motor transducer mount" which just happens to be very close to the title of your post, and IBoats was the source. I'm older than dirt and can do internet searches. As my mother would tell me, why can't you do that yourself? Sorry --not enough coffee yet this morning. :)

By the way, the transducer is connected to the locator which hopefully is displaying the depth of the water. If one is breaking off transducers, one is not paying attention to the locator which is why it was added in the first place. If you routinely fish in stump fields then one of the hazards is trolling motor shaft breakage or bending and transducter damage. Comes with the territory.

Re: trolling mount transducer

I'm changing depth finders tonight and changing transducers . It is easy ,just buy the mount for your transducer and mount it with the parts . wire tie the wire and leave a loop at the swivel and ck the cable should be tight on one rotation and loose and off the shaft on opposite rotation . wire tie it the rest of the way an run it though the mount cking that it doesn't get pinched when the motor folds . I have had many on trolling motors and it is great . You will break the transducer if you hit things . What good does a transducer do if it is in the back for the guy in the front . :D:D:D

Re: trolling mount transducer

That works fine, unless you have a troller such as a MinnKota Power Drive or similar. If the motor shaft needs to slide through the mount while being stowed or deployed, you can't tie the cable to the shaft.

This is the predicament I'm in. Checked a boat in the neighborhood and he simply zip-tied the wire at the top and at the bottom with a little slack in the middle. I really don't see any other way to do it.

Were the pictures you mentioned in the earlier post of the wire routing or simply the pictures of traducers? I'd love to see any other wire routing options available.

TIA.

Re: trolling mount transducer

I attached a Lowrance transducer to my 30lb transom-mount Minn Kota using a heavy gauge zip tie. It works great, is protected by the skeg from hitting any objects underwater and I'd recommend it.

The only thing about it that I don't like is that you do have to keep the troller in the water while running the outboard if you want to check depth while underway. This can cause some splashing.
