trolling motor

I have a minkota model cordless r trolling motor. I am having a problem with it working erraticly.Should the red light on the side be on continuously during opperation?Mine turns off and on.If this indicates something is wrong is there any way to tell if its the reciever or the transmitter? Any helpwill be appreciated.

Have you replaced the batteries in the transmitter and are the terminals clean?

The batteries are brand new.The transmitter will work but the light on the reciever flashes on and off.

The light may function like the LED on your TV remote. Does the light flash on when you activate the transmitter and go off when you are not issuing a command? What does the user manual say? Go to MinnKota's web site for a free manual download if you don't have one.
