Re: trolling motor

Bruce, I have a 18ft four winns that came with a 40# thrust minn kota that was just not enough power for me. In calm waters and no wind conditions it was fine. I upgraded to a 55# thrust MK and it works a lot better. I doubt you would be happy with a 40 # motor on your boat. Make sure you get one with a shaft that is long enough. My biggest compliant with the orginal motor was when I put one of my 200# plus fishing buddies in the back of the boat the TM prop was almost out of the water, waves caused problems too. To make a long story short over 50# of thrust and 54 inch shaft. Good luck
Kevin

Re: trolling motor

If your going to stick to 12volts buy the biggest 12 volt available. 24 volt may be better though, if you can store 2 batteries somewhere. I did some research and ended up with a 36 volt on my 20' Lund. You may want to opt for the long shaft too as I had to return my 52" for a 62". Bet your bow's higher than mine.... And if you can get the salt water version......

Here's a link to read........

http://www.bassangler.com/articles/crawford/paul-tm.htm

http://www.bowfishiowa.com/TrollingMotors101.htm

http://www.outdoorcanada.ca/control_power.html

Re: trolling motor

I have a MK powerdrive 55# with a 54" shaft. Plenty of power even in the Hudson river. My boat is a little lighter though. About 1600 I believe. I also like the microtouch foot pedal.
