Trolling motor stopped working?

I have a Minn Kota 30 pound thrust trolling motor. I have used it a good few times. The other day I was using it and it just stopped working. The batteries still had plenty of charge. I tried to get it to work and the propeller barely turned a few times and then wouldn't turn at all after that. The motor says it is for fresh water and I was using it in salt water so I'm sure that would have something to do with it but has anyone had this problem or know what happened and if there is a way to fix it?

Inspect the shaft & motor case for corrosion...you might can find where the water is getting in.

Foot or hand control?

they have schematics and parts at mikesreelrepair.com

Remove the prop and check for fish line, weeds, string, or other debris. If you find fish line, it is possible the line has damaged the seal on the motor shaft and water entry has corroded the bearings. Turn the prop by hand. You should feel a slight jerkiness as you spin the prop. If it turns hard, its a bearing problem. If the motor turns freels, check your battery connections. (check them means disconnect and clean them).

I don't see any corrosion on the shaft or on the motor case. I removed the prop and there was no fishing line or weeds or anything in there. I turned the propeller and there was a slight jerkiness, but it didn't really turn hard. I mean it wouldn't keep spinning if I stopped turning it but it wasn't hard to turn it. I checked and cleaned the battery connections. Its still not working. I dont have the manual for it anymore but does anyone know a number to call to order a Minn Kota Endura 30 2005 Manual. Or does anyone know if there is something else to check?

Are you sure the battery is fully charged and is capable of holding a charge. If in doubt, try a different battery. Even the one out of your car will work for test purposes..

If the battery and connections are fine then the problem maybe inside the motor. If the motor operate at normal speed and stops abruptly from time to time; the brushes may nee replacing. This is often the case on old D.C. motors.

un screw the top and see if there is corrosion on the controll switch or the connections if not disconnect the red and black wires and connect to a KNOWN good bat (be carefull motor will go to full speed) if it works the speed controll switch is bad if it doesent work replace motor8)
