Trolling Motor Questions

I am getting a Minn Kota Riptide SE 55lb hand control motor for my J16 Carolina Skiff with a large front deck.

I will be using it with the Minn Kota Quick-Release Bracket.

• How do I know exactly where to install it?
  
• How do you guys plug it in to the battery? I will be taking my motor off every once and a while so I was thinking about using a plug design... Anyone else doing this?
  
• How do you guys charge your batteries for the trolling motor? Do you have an onboard charger? Or do you just take the battery out and use a portable charger?

Mount it so when deployed it is a close as possible to the bow.

I charge the batteries with an on-board charger.

the motor will have a plug on it...not sure about minnkota, but motorguide doesn't include the matching socket in the box -- you have to buy that extra.

Documentation in the box will tell you how much clearance the bracket needs (how far over the bow the front of it should extend).

I carry my bench charger & extension cord out to the boat for charging. But an on-board charger with a 10-amp setting and "float mode" would be perfect.
