I have a Ranger 175 VS and it has a 12 volt 55 lb. thrust trolling motor. My question is, can I change that one to a 70lb. 24 volt trolling motor and it work. I have room for two batteries on the trolling motor side, can I just set those up for 24 volt system? Also, will my onboard battery charger be able to charge the batteries if they are set up for 24 volt system.

joeyblee14, I'm not sure what you are asking. If you are asking if you can remove your existing 12 volt trolling motor and buy a 24 volt one and installing the proper wires and another 12 volt battery, then the answer is yes. But if you are asking if you simply run your existing 12 volt trolling motor on 24 volt, then the answer is NO! Running you 12 volt trolling motor on 24 volts will severely shorten its life quickly. It may work for a short time, but the internal wiring on the armature won't take too long to burn open... Hope that answers your question. If not, repost with additional info and we can try again...

Yes I wanted to go from a 12 volt trolling motor, to a 24 volt trolling motor on my Ranger. I didn't know if they put strong enough wiring in them to do it or not. Also, I didn't know if my charger could charge a 24 volt system with two batteries, as opposed to a 12 volt system with one battery.
