Re: trolling motor props

No -- The more blades a prop has the better "bite" it has on the water and the more water it will push, thus more boat push. However, the motor must have sufficient power to turn the prop efficiently. With too little power, a three or four blade may hurt performance. Props are not terribly expensive so you might try experimenting. The true test however would be to install and ampmeter in the POS line to your motor. Run the existing prop and take an amp reading. If it draws significantly higher current with a three or four blade prop and you see very little performance improvement, but much higher current draw, go back to the original as all you've accomplished is to shorten the length of time the motor will run on a full battery charge. If performance increases with very little additional current draw, you could stay with the new prop.

Re: trolling motor props

It's the same as an outboard prop- more blades bite better and run smoother but produce more drag while running. Two blades are good all around props but can be trouble in the weeds, especially on the MGs. Pitch and blade geometry have effects as well. However, since the options are severely limited as far as trolling motor props go, you'll just need to experiment. I had a 2 blade prop and a 3 blade prop for my first MG and hated the 3 blade Ninja- it was a weed gathering machine. The regular two blade actually did better in the slop than the Ninja did and I kept my speed up. The Ninja was a turd. I don't know about the current MG offerings as I went to the MK side long ago.

UFM82
