Trolling motor problems

I have a MotorGuide 46 lb thrust pro 2weeks old (made for Bass pro shops),
it is a "rack and pinion" steering bow mount, the foot control now has stopped working, it moves forward and backward but the motor head does not move.
The power switch moves and the motor works in all speeds but the foot control will not move the power head in any direction.
I need some direction on how to fix this or what I should be looking for to fix this.

I will be taking it back to the store where I bought it, BUT I woulld like to know if this is a COMMON problem with this unit so I can change to a different unit.

Thanks for your advice.

Re: Trolling motor problems

Does the foot pedal move? If not, the problem is either with a jammed pedal, stuck cable or the rack & pinion is jammed. If the pedal moves but nothing happens, then the cables became disconnected in the pedal or in the head of the motor, the rack and pinion has broken or somehow disengaged, or a cable has broken. Warranty will fix it. Stuff happens -- so it really doesn't matter what brand or style of motor you have. I'm not aware that this is a common problem with that particular motor.

Re: Trolling motor problems

Thanks for the info.
The pedal has full movement, from your info it sounds as if the cable(s) may have become disconnected.
Thanks again for the input.
