Hi all,

I just bought a 2001 Starcraft Superfisherman - 20-foot. Previous boat was a 19-foot Lund Tyee. On the Lund, I had a Motorguide trolling motor with a 60" shaft mounted on the bow. Today, just after launching the Starcraft, I measured the bow platform (where motor would be mounted) to water line and it was 45". Motorguide's website says rule of thumb for shaft length is bow to waterline (45") + 24" = 69". The longest shaft Motorguide makes is 60", the longest shaft Minn Kota makes is 62". Will 60/62" be long enough on the Superfisherman? Has anyone mounted a 60/62" on a boat with a similar bow to waterline height?

Thanks,

Dan

I have an older 1995 17' Superfisherman & went through the same dilemma. Can't remember what the bow to water measurment was as it was several years ago, but was thinking it was something around what you're seeing. I bought a 60" Motorguide & it is plenty long.

The only thing I could find on Motorguide's website was a page for recommendations for certain types of boats. They list 50"-60" recommendation for a "Walley Deep "V" 19' to 22'".

You might try to contact a Starcraft dealership & see if they know anything.

It may work, as those recommendations are for rougher water, but if you have the Powerdrive/wireless series, you could make a drop down bracket that mounts where the motor would, but hangs over the side, and the TM base is actually 10 inches below the gunwale.

Thanks for the replies! I did end up contacting the Starcraft dealer and they suggest the 60" shaft. I'm going to get the Wireless Motorguide so I have the option of using a drop-down bracket as bassboy1 suggested.

I have a Motorguide 60 inch shaft wireless on my 20 foot 2000 Superfisherman. Unless you get into really rough swells it can ride out of the water but it does a great job and has plenty of power. Works for me.

Hey Tim,

Did you go with the 55 lb or 75 lb thrust model? Does the narrow mounting plate twist at all when at high thrust? Also wondering if you have any pics of how you mounted it to get around the rail hardware.

Thanks,

Dan

I have the 70 lbs thrust model. My 2000 Superfisherman doesnt have any rails along the front so it was an easy install. Just put it to one side of the bow light mount. No twisting at high thrust either.
