Re: Trolling Motor Maximizer
Mine has the Maximizer built in to it. Didn't realize they used to be sperate units.

They're used to save battery life. The way a trolling motor without a maximizer (or something similar, Maximizer is Minn Kota's brand name) works is that no matter what speed you have it at, it still sucks the same amount of energy out of the battery as if you were at max speed. For the lower speeds, it basically bleeds off the extra energy and wastes it.

What the Maximizer does is make it so that your motor will only draw the amount of power from the battery that it needs for that particular speed.

A general rule of thumb for knowing which type of trolling motor you have is the speed control. If you have something like a three speed trolling motor, it's probably the more inefficient design. If you have an infinite variable speed, it's probably got some sort of maximizer.

Now, how to hook it up, I'm not sure. Obviously it needs to be between the motor and the battery. My best guess as to how it would work is that you would leave the trolling motor on it's max speed, and the maximizer will have a dial on it that you can use to control the speed. but, this is a total shot in the dark, as I haven't seen one.
