So I just bought a 20' sea ox and I doubt that my minn kota 33at will even reach the water from the bow. I really don't know as it has not been in the water yet, but could any of you that have experience on this boat recommend a trolling motor length that would work for this boat?

Re: trolling motor info

Im shopping for a new trolling motor for my 17' Legend, and everything I've seen says a 55lb would be more than enough power. Would guess for a 20' boat, you should be looking anywhere from 55 minimum up to about 65 or 70lbs.

Re: trolling motor info

I have a Minn Kota V-2 (70#) thrust on my Larson 18. It is 24V. I added a wireless remote which makes it a joy to use. No cables!

The Larson is a heavy boat, like your Sea Ox. The 70# is adequate.

As far as length, you'll need to measure. Take into account that most boats sit a little bow high when in the water. The prop needs to be fully underwater, at all times. I would give myself an extra foot. Most trolling motors can be easily adjusted for height so BUY LONG. It's easy to adjust height up but impossible to make it longer.

For a 20' sea ox, if you plan on using it in rough chop, wind or in current, I would consider a 101lb thrust with 36V system. Really just depends on where you are going to be fishing. Where??
