I was thinking of taking a ride from Bay City to Oscoda, MI on Lake Huron in 2007, in a fairly small boat - 15 ft. Question is, is attempting a trip such as this in a small boat asking for trouble, or does this seem reasonable??

Thanks.

I don't know if you are still watching this post, but, it all depends on the type of boat. If it were my 15 footer i would say go for it. But, my boat has a lot of freeboard and a real high bow. if it were a tiller or a flat bottom boat I might not do it. I would definately carry a kicker motor incase the big motor pukes.

I am not sure how far you are going but I have travelled over 100 kms, 60 miles in my 14' on lake huron. Just check where the docks are so you know you can make it with fuel, if you have a small tank like mine, stay close to shore and everything will go great. I was now more then 3 kms from shore, so I never really felt uncomfortable, all in all it was a fun trip so I say go for it
