Trim wont go down...

1996 boat has a mercruiser 4.3.. Goes up fine, but when I try to put it down it'll just "click, click" then sometimes it'll have a "humming" sound coming from it like it does when its going up, but doesn't move. Thoughts? hydrolic fluid low?

I just quickly sprayed the whole thing down with engine degreaser and sprayed the electrical parts with intake cleaner, let it dry and it started working again.. Prob not the answer but hey if it works for now I'll take it.

mine is the low pressure pump and was easily taken apart and fully cleaned every few years to keep corrosion from causing this.

So I'm back to it not working. Doing the same thing.. up works fine, but down will "click" and I'll keep pressing it, then the motor will start to sound like its working but the trim still wont go down, I'll keep clicking and clicking and finally it'll start going down. It took almost 5 mins last time for it to finally go down. I'm not gonna take it back out again till I get this fixed. I have fluid (its a white pinkish color?).. and the up is working perfect. Its gotta be something with they hydraulic line right? Why else would the motor run but the trim not move?

It sounds like you have a couple of problems. The white/pink color maybe water in the hydralic system and you also could have a bad relay for the pump motor or a bad connection.

So why would the up work but the down not?
