Hello I just bought a 1989 Wellcraft 192 classic with a 3.7 mercrusier and an alpha 1 out drive. I am in the process of rewiring the boat and have hit a hard spot. The wires that go to the tilt sensors on the out drive are rotted out and disconnected. I don't know where to re connect them and now the trim doesn't work with out them. Does anyone have a link top a good schematic of the tilt system? I looked at the one on the tech articles but It offered very little info.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Rocky is correct, replace the trim sender, if you are equiped with the trim limiter, I'd suggest buying the kit and replacing both. getting the wires thru the transom is kind of a chore

Ok, sounds like I will be replacing them both. Now, does anyone have the complete wiring diagram for the trim system. The one in the tech articles has a very low resolution and is hard to read the text. Also, whats the best place to get them quickly? West Marine, BOW, or the internet?

Thanks again

Go up to the adult only sticky at the top of this forum and download the correct manual. It will have all the info needed on how to install and wire it up. Not a bad job. It is a little tough to get the wires thru. I had my wife in the boat when I finally hit the hole (LOL) and she pulled them thru. Also you can find them at good prices on ebay or even here on Iboats.

Is it possible to replace the sensors without removing the sterndrive? I really don't feel comfortable doig that job. It looks like you might be able to fish the leads through the hole by attaching a line to the ends before removing the old leads through the hull and then pull the new leads back through.
Just curious if any one has succeeded at doing this with out removing the drive.

Having replaced a couple sets and having all of the fail, I'd say they aren't worth the hassle of the not so simple job of replacing.

The trim limit switch limits the amount of upward movement so you don't over trim. Experience will tell you the best running angle so in time you won't even need it. The trim position sender only tell you where the trim position is which is soon unnecessary with a little experience.

It's pretty much a waste of money in my book.
