Hello
I have a 100hp Evinrude outboard and I have been having some serious trim problems over the last year. At first it was just that clicking noise, which I fixed by rewireing solenoids. But then my o-ring broke on the manual release valve. I then had to unmount my engine and drain the system, replace the oring, put it back together, re fill the fluid. This seemed to work, at first the trim motor would just make noise and not move, but I began to bleed out the air bubbles. After countless hours of doing this, the trim now only goes UP and only down as far as my hydralic posts, they will not move. Can they become locked? Is there any solution to this problem? HELP!! PLEASE!!

Thanks

Are you saying the trim rams are out and will not go in?

Is the motor mounted back on the boat?

Yes, the motor is mounted on the boat and yes, the trim rams are out will not go back in. It will trim up and down above the trim rams, but once it hits them it will not go down any further.
Any suggestions?

What year is that 100hp Evinrude?

When it hits the trim rams, what happens? Does the electric motor continue to run freely at the same speed or does it drag down drastically?

When you tilt the engine up, does it stay up or does it drift back down?

Anything extra that you can think of?

I'm wondering why you went to all that work simply to replace the manual release valve.

Hey Joe
Thanks for the reply, I'm pretty sure it's an 80, or so i've been told, never taken the time to run the numbers. The engine stays up when I tilt it up all the way, it doesn't drift down so there is definitly a tight seal. I went to all that work for the release valve because with the oring broken, there is not a closed system, and without the closed system the motor will slowly drift back down as you said. Ad for when it hits the rams, it continues to run freely which has me believe that my tilt works while my trim does not. Any idea my procedure to fix this?
