Last night I removed the manual trim bracket and installed a power trim bracket on my 1995 evinrude eleo 70hp. The trim bracket came of a 1990 evinrude 70hp.

I removed the trim relay assembly from the old motor and hooked it up to my new motor.

When I tested the trim and tilt it seems to work fine except that when I tilt it all the way up and then try to tilt down it just hangs there. If I keep the down button on the engine will eventually tilt back down after the bottom tilt pistons have fully retracted.

Is this by design? Please take a look at this short video and give me your impression of this tilt unit.

Thank you.

Whats happening is,the tilt tube that is between the mounting brackets is either too tight, the plastic washers that are between the bracket assy and steering assy, are gone ,wore out.if you loosen the big nuts on the sides of the tilt tube it should get better, that will then tell you wheere the problem is,you may have tightened them too much, usually the weight of the engine will help it drop, but ,before you do anything, try it with the loweunit on,that may help with the balance, the tilt piston will pull it once it gets enough fluid, which is what is happening.Bottom line is,nothing is wrong, just to tight of nuts or not enough lower weight

Thanks mike, I'm going to try it with the lower unit on right now. I think that may help it as if I apply light pressure on the mid section it will go down right away but slowly.

I am sure I put the washer in at the bottom of the steering assy, I used the sterring assy off my 95 motor because the one that was on the parts motor was rusted. I did tighten the bottom nut the 1 1/4" that holds the steering assy on very tight. Maybe I should loosen that one a bit?

Well..nevermind. I put the leg on and it works great. Comes right down no problem now.

Thanks!
