trim trouble

I am new to boating.i had the boat out this weekend and the trim suddenly stopped going down. Makes a noise like it is bottomed out....but wont go down.....1979 115 hp mercury. Wanting to learn how to work on it myself. I have no clue whats what. Any help would be appreciated.

Just ot be sure of what we are working on. That PTT have two cylinders, 4 hydraulic lines and a pump/reservoir in the boat?

I have not checked the fluid....unsure of how. Remove the pan head screw and fill it up?

yes, the round head stainless steel fill screw is located on the right side of the reservoir. The PTT unit will normally have ATF or 5W-30 motor oil. Determine what is in there and fill with the same.
