I have a 1995 88 Evinrude and the Trim/Tilt does not stay up. As I am driving or even just stopped, the engine very slowly will go down . I am assuming I have a air leak ? I opened it up and checked the oil when I first got it and put some oil in it and since then it has this problem. How do you get the air out ? By the way anyone know what the spl stands for on this motor ? Thanks

Re: Trim/ Tilt

book says<br />1 tilt motor up & engage tilt support<br />2 remove cap add omc power t/t-power steering fluid or gm dextron II as needed to bttom of fill cap hole<br />3 install fill cap. disengage tilt support. <br />cycle unit in 10sec spurts <add fluid as needed>.<br />a min of 5 complete cycles is required to purge air from the system.<br /><br />make sure that manual release valve screw is torqued to 45 to 55 inch lbs before you start.<br />- <br />from this site i know the special should be a 90hp with premix pump.

2kboat's got the procedure right.<br /><br />"SPL" meant "Special". They were a "value" line of engines made to compete with other makers value lines.<br /><br />They were no different except they didn't always have the frills like oil injection and sometimes TNT.
