Trim tilt?

I have a 1979 Chrysler 70hp outboard with the trim unit off of a 1990 Force 90hp. When I try to trim the motor up or down the relays just click!
I changed the relays but that did not help. I have jumped the trim motor directly and it works fine, and when I used a test light to check the output from the relay to the motor it lights up when the switch is flipped up or down. The ground also looks good. Could I have an amperage problem? It had slowly started giving problems and then it just stopped working all together.
Thanks....

Re: Trim tilt?

it works when do a direct jump.motor is good.relays are good.sounds like only one thing left the switch.may be shorted..its possible it may be 24 volt.a manual should tell you that.i would start there.sounds like you got the basics coverd.

Re: Trim tilt?

Did you happen to replace both relays or just the one you thought was out. I only ask because this weekend that happened to me too. I replaced the one I thought was for the lowering and then found out I had to replace the other one and not the one I originally thought. But just a thought...If the relay is clicking that means there is power to the realy and not through it. I thought mine was the thumb switch too but it was the relay. Hope this helps!!
