trim/tilt

I have a 1996 60 hp mercury ob. My tilt/trim sometimes works and sometimes not. I hear a clicking noise, then it might work & again not.I have (1) switch on the motor & (1) on the shifter.<br />Has anyone else had this type of problem? Do i need a new trim mtr. Serial # on motor 0G125924.<br /> Thanks Bill

Sounds like you are a hearing the solenoid switch clicking. Your trim motor might be going out.

I have a 1993 40 HP that needed the brushes inside the trim motor cleaned a couple years ago. (Usually intermittent problem)<br />You should be able to whack the trim motor with a mallet or block of wood while operating the trim switch to know for sure. Mine has been fine since I cleaned the brushes.<br />Also, my 93 has 2 relays inside the cowl (one for up, the other for down) that you can swap in case you have just one that is dirty. I didn't have to take mine apart to clean, but it looked like it could be done.

Joel K,<br />Thank's i will check this out, also would you know if the power trim relay's on a Merc 60 Hp. are the same as the trim relay's on a Johnson/Evenrude of the same Hp. rating?<br /> Thank's Again. Bill
