Trim/Tilt question

I have been trying to figure something out. My boat with a VolvoSX has one switch for "tilt/trim". I have noticed that some boats have both a "tilt" switch and a "trim" switch. So the question is... is this is feature of the drive (mercs maybe?) Or could i have seperate "tilt" and "trim" switches if i wanted?

(I am making the assumption that "tilt" is the action of lifting the drive for trailering or shallow water operations, "trim" is the action of fine tuning the drive angle/hull when down and running at normal speeds.

Just wondering (I am always worried that i might overtrim the drive "up" while running... since there is no real differance.

Re: Trim/Tilt question

The reason for different trim and tilt buttons is if you have a trim limit switch, you need the tilt button (or an override button) to override the trim button so the drive will go all the way up.
Volvo only installed that feature on the DP (Dual Prop) drives, not the SX (single prop) drives. You could could actually have it installed, but it would be an expensive proposition.
The reason it was installed on the DP drives is due to the cavitation burn on the props if trimmed a little too high.

Thanks, that explains it. Not interested in spending the money to install it.. but it is nice to know it is an option.
