trim / tilt pump

Installed a new / used trim / tilt pump on my 88 omc 4.3L. It worked fine up 3 times and down twice. I then topped off the fluid and proceded to put the motor down again per my manual to purge air that may be trapped in the system. When I did this.. the motor just stopped.. wouldnt go up or down. I removed pump and bench tested it.. nothing. I pulled off the electric motor and tried to turn the pump mechanism by hand.. was frozen.. (I compaired it to my old mechanism, that turned freely). Any idea what happend and how I can fix it? The little slotted part that the electric motor fits into is just completely frozen.
