I recently acquired a skeeter wrangler 120 with a 100hp johnson javelin. The outboard is all the way down and I need to get it up to drive it home, when I press down on the trim I hear the motor spinning, but when I press up it does nothing. Not a sound, click, or anything. Can anyone give me a couple ideas of what might be going on??
Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!

Okay, that 1979 100hp model has a dual polarity electric motor on its PTT assembly, meaning that battery polarity to the motor will make it run in one direction, and reversing the battery polarity makes it run in the opposite direction.

The problem you're having is normally caused by a faulty relay. Reverse/switch the relays, if the problem is now reversed, that proves a relay is bad and requires replacing.

Disregard this reply.... This unit does not have relays. Relay setup did not exist until 1981. See below replies.

If your trim unit is factory original, that year's model does not use the newer dual relays. It has a single solenoid which is used in the up movement circuit only. For the up movement there are two components which need to both work, that solenoid and the trim switch itself. The solenoid is usually located in a remote box, usually under the rear splashwell of the boat. It looks like a starter solenoid. You can check out the factory exploded parts diagram at: epc.brp.com. When shipped from the factory, they glued a wiring diagram to the inside of the trim box cover.

Oops, Emdsapmgr is correct. It had slipped my mind that the relay setup did not show up until 1981.

To raise the engine manually, look inside a hole that you willl see at the lower side portion of the starboard transom bracket. The screwdriver slot you'll see inside that hole is the manual release valve. Back it out two full turns (no more than 2 turns). This will allow you to lift the engine.

The problem...... check for voltage at the PTT solenoid when you press the up button of the PTT switch. If no voltage = bad switch. If voltage exists = bad solenoid, faulty solenoid ground, poor faulty wiring to PTT electric motor, or faulty PTT motor.

PTT electric motor can be tested directly by running small jumper wires to the electric motor. Black wire = Ground, Green wire = Up, Blue wire = Down.
