Re: Trim/Tilt Hydraulic Fluid ?

Seahogfisher,
I have a 90 Yam and I think the power trim/tilt is the same or very similar.
To check the fluid level, tilt the motor fully up and remove the large slot head screw on the side of the pump. The fluid should be level with the hole and if not you need to pump some in until it overflows. It's a little awkward to get at, I use a small plastic bottle with spout (I think it was designed for putting water in a battery) that works well. Hopefully you should not need to put much in unless you have a leaking seal.
Order a manual for your motor and it will give you all the above info, plus the correct fluid to use.
Hope this helps,
Peter

My '70s Merc manual says to use ATF.

Re: Trim/Tilt Hydraulic Fluid ?

Thank you gentlemen for such a prompt reply, this being my first posting I really didn't know what too expect. I will try checking out the slotted screw to view the fluid level and also getting hold of a manual.
My thoughts goes out to all those people that have suffered so much in the past year, be brave......
