Re: trim/tilt gauge

You say senders, so we're talking Merc, right?
With the Ignition on, use a wire to ground the S post on the rear of the gauge. It should move the needle to the stop. If it does, your senders need to be adjusted.
If there is no movement, make sure your gauge is correctly wired up.
Who put the new senders in? Only one of those "senders" is the trim indicator. The other is the trim limit.
Use your manual to adjust them . If you don't have a manual, go to the sticky section at the top of the fourm, find the link for your motor/drive and download your manual... You're gonna need it>

Re: trim/tilt gauge

Many years ago I built a gauge tester. Because different gauge manufacturers use different resistance ranges I built one with a multi-pole switch to select the different ranges.

But if you just want to test a single manufacturers' gauges, like Mercruiser. then just go to you local electronics shop and buy a 33 ohm resistor (1/4 watt) and a 0-250ohm rotary pot (use 0-500 if they don't have a 0-250). Solder the 33 ohm resistor to the centre leg of the pot, then connect the other end of the resistor to the "SENDER" terminal of the gauge. Connect one of the outer legs (doesn't matter which, but only one of them) to the 'GROUND' terminal on the gauge. You now have a simple, but very effective gauge tester, and it will work on all 33-240 ohm gauges. Just remember to disconnect the wire from the sender on the gauge before hooking up the tester.

Good luck.

Chris.......
