I need to replace the two long bolts ( OMC p/n 0332267 ) on my trim/tilt and was wondering if I can substitutute a stainsteel bolt from the hardware store.
The description of the bolt 79mm (3 1/8 inch) in length. I measured the bolt and came up with a 3/8 x 16 x 3 1/4. Will this work? I just can see spending $20 for one bolt and I need two. I can get a package of five 316 stainless for $10 from mcmaster-carr.

Any Thought?

Thanks

Re: trim/tilt bolt substitution

The grade of the bolt is stamped into the bolt head. SS bolts are about a grade 6, and are unmarked. If the bolts you need are grade 8, replace with grade 8. If not, SS ones are fine.
