Re: TRIM TAB QUESTION

also any info on proper mounting would be appreciated, I read an online guide that said that they should be about 3-4 inches from the outside edge and at least 8" from the lower unit centerline, also that they should be mounted parallel with the bottom ege of the boat. If this is true then i think my problem was that mine were mounted incorrectly because mine were mounted completly horizontal and my hull is a v-stlye hull.

Re: TRIM TAB QUESTION

Hey Super.. The tabs need to be parallel to the bottom line of your boat. If you have a 'v' hull, then the tabs would be mounted at the same angle as your 'v'. The tabs, when in the down position, create drag, and will push the bow down a little or a lot depending on the weight of your boat and size of your tabs. Put them down when taking off and you should, with enough power, get up on plane faster. Then lift them a little once on plane to create less drag and increase speed. When in rougher water, and the bow of your boat is bouncing up and down real hard, trim the tabs down a little to reduce the bounce. It will slow you down a little but be more comfortable. You need to be carefull in seas that are close together (waves every second or 2) because you can bury the bow of your boat right into the oncoming wave. In rough seas, sometimes it is better to keep the bow up(trim tabs up) and ride over the waves slowly. Hope this helped.

Re: TRIM TAB QUESTION

yes it did, I had the boat repainted and they are off the boat right now but i was contimplating even putting them back on. It appears that whoever put them on originally did it wrong and they were not working properly. They were mounted horizontally and The boat had a hard time planing off, even with the engine trim all the way down. The boat is a 15.5 ft checkmate (light boat) and has a big motor (135 johnson) on it. Sounds like I could leave them off and expect the same performance from the boat or put them back on the "right" way and expect the boat to plane off better. Thanks again.

Re: TRIM TAB QUESTION

i would question why he even would put tabs on a 15 foot boat... on a boat that small you can trim the engine pretty much to where you want the bow.
