Hey Super.. The tabs need to be parallel to the bottom line of your boat. If you have a 'v' hull, then the tabs would be mounted at the same angle as your 'v'. The tabs, when in the down position, create drag, and will push the bow down a little or a lot depending on the weight of your boat and size of your tabs. Put them down when taking off and you should, with enough power, get up on plane faster. Then lift them a little once on plane to create less drag and increase speed. When in rougher water, and the bow of your boat is bouncing up and down real hard, trim the tabs down a little to reduce the bounce. It will slow you down a little but be more comfortable. You need to be carefull in seas that are close together (waves every second or 2) because you can bury the bow of your boat right into the oncoming wave. In rough seas, sometimes it is better to keep the bow up(trim tabs up) and ride over the waves slowly. Hope this helped.
