Hope all is well,
I plan to install a set of trim tabs on my 1996 Maxum 2300 SC. The instructions say to apply marine sealant (3M 5200, which I question if 4200 will be good enough, so it can be removed in the future if needed) in the screw holes and between the hinge plate and gel coat. The bottom is already painted with Sea Hawk Cukote. My question, would you guys install the tab directly over the bottom paint, or sand the paint off first to get good contact between the gel coat and hinge plate using the marine sealant? Obviously the screw holes need the sealant, but I'm not even 100% convinced the hinge plate actually needs to be sealed to the gel coat anyway.
