I need to replace the trim switch in my Commador controller. I was wondering if any of you have done this on the same controller? I have the switch and the bezel that goes over it. It appears to me that the old bezel needs to be cut off in order to get at the switch? I will try and post a pic of the controller, but not sure i can. Thanks Tom

Yes did mine last year, same one. I used a heat gun to soften it up then pried it off. Clear off any excess then glue it back on. I made a mistake the first time and placed the switches in the wrong place so had to take it back apart. Remember where the switch is top or bottom (I forget). The switch needs to go back in same location or it will move to much.

First time I used high strength PVC glue and it worked. Next time did not have any so tried some regular strength and that did not hold. Cleaned it back up and used 2 part plastic epoxy.

Alldodge,

Once the bezel is off, is there enough slack in the wires to get the switch out and reconnect the wires?

Thanks
Tom

There was but if you remove the cover and there is a clamp which holds the wires to the body. Just remove the clamp and you can bring it out a bit further. I pop the top off with a number 2 philips and push in on the 1/4 hole facing the bow. Just push in and pull back a bit on front cover up and toward the rear. It is hooked on the rear

You said you removed the bezel (trim piece that surrounds the switch) with heat? What kind of heat? I would be afraid of deforming or melting the plastic?

Are you sure it is the trim switch in the handle, and not the trim limit switch in the outdrive? Just asking because trim switches rairly fail, but trim limit switch failure is very common. If the trim up does not work but the trim down does, then odds are it is the trim limit.

Terry,
Yes, it's the switch. The switch is sticking. Tried squirting some lub into it but it appears it is just worn out. It sometimes will not return to the center position and I need to physically move it back.

I used a heat gun, so it can get really hot. Just watch as to not let it get to hot. Thought about using a roto-zip but this would make a mess and then more clean up for the surfaces. The heat causes the glue to release its hold.

You can take the handle off but this takes more disassembly
