Actually first post but been around on/off for some time. Hi

Just got a new to me 93 Chaparral 1800 SCL in fair shape. Motor is strong 4.3LX with Alpha one. (showed 116hrs but isn't going up)

Finding the little things like the power trim switch only puts the motor down and I use the trailer button to raise. Issue is the switch bounces around and changes trim when running. The switch shows no longer avail (p/n 87-88790A 2) as well as no upgrades. It is a toggle, not rocker. Commander 2000 is the controller (thx to DRS4164
for a manual and the ID)

I have it opened up and have found a couple switches that would need to be soldered in. Not a real problem but will it fit? Has anyone replaced the switch with quicksilver "p/n 87-8M0046008" or similar?

Yes, replaced mine a couple years ago on my console model.

use the trailer button to raise

Does sound like you have an issue with the switch, but could also have an issue with the trim limit switch on the drive

I have to get the trim gauge to work too, thx.

Switch is bad no matter how you look at and looks like this switch has been OOS for years now.

Pretty sure I can just wire in another switch. maybe a rocker would fit in there or a surface mount over the hole.

For another option, what about a newer control handle for it? Will something newer bolt on using the cable I have now?

If you were just looking at BAM or other Merc site it might show NLA, but enter the part number in google and some parts show up. Such as the switch 87-8M0046008 , there are several around $22

Tried a few ways and having little luck. I ordered a rocker switch vs the toggle I have and will have to wire it in and massage the housing for a good fit.
The real number I need is 87-88790A and have no luck at all.
