Trim switch on lever

How do I get the switch out of the handle to replace I was having problems leg wouldnt go up and down and i have traced problem to switch but i dont know how to get it out its a mercury handle but i dont know if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help or advice!!

If the switch is at the very top of the handel ,remove the round cover and the switch lift out
If it`s in the side of the handel , removing the screws ,the outer cover, allows access.
But without a pic,model number ,etc. it`s harder to give the correct answer

Which Mercury "handle" is it. They have made several over the last 5-6 decades.

If it's on the upper part of the throttle handle like mine (1989 Merc) there is 2 screws you remove and the plate comes off exposing the switch. I just checked mine cuz my drive is not working presently (bad solenoid), all my switches are good. I hooked up an ohm meter to the harness plug at the solenoids and I get voltage when I engage the switches. If you do have the same switch setup and have to replace it, let us know if you can get the exact same replacement! I have a feeling I will need one someday!;)

Thanks for help guys I got it apart and found a broken wire in the handle so I repared and it all works great so problem solved for now!
