Trim stuck all the way up

Just bought a '96 well craft 190 CCF with a '96 Johnson 150. I raised the trim all they way up to add fluid. It made kind of a cracking sound at the top and now will not go down. Also the head for the manual release valve is nearly sheered off. I can get a little bite on it and get out 1 turn then it sticks. I ordered a impact screwdriver to hopefully break it free. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That's a tough one. Doesn't the screw have two options. Standard bit and a hex head (socket) ? Sounds like something let go when you heard the noise.

The screw was just a flathead. Not really anyotherway to bite onto it I can see. Also should have mentioned its done this before. The guy I bought in from said not to go up too high or it will get stuck. I did it the 1st time I took ot out but I added some fluid pushed down on the motor and it went down. Thought the problem was solved, but it was acting up again so I raised it all the way up to add fluid and now nothing.

Yes, some are that way, not sure why though, they should be hex if you ask me. Hopefully the impact will work. I use mine a lot. Another thing there should be an adjustment somewhere preventing how far up it goes. Some motor wells will hit if you go to hi and that adjustment prevents that. I'm assuming yours is letting it go up to high.

I agree 100% about the hex. Thats good to know about the adjustment. Ill see if I can figure that out once I get it down.

I just saw another blog and other than the noise they said it was an air lock situation. Only way to relive it was to open the bleed screw. They also said if you can't get the screw open (very common) than you will have to remove the trim and tilt. They also said low oil can creat that situation. The procedure for adding oil is this. Bring the motor all the way up, add fluid, then use the manual release and let it come all the way down. Close the valve and bring the motor up with the electric tilt, and repeat the process. You have to bleed the system.
