Trim Squeals & slow to raise/lower

Hello All,
New guy here. Just bought a '95 Starcraft bowrider w/3.0L Mercruiser. Boat has been sitting for a few years and I just used it for the first time this past weekend.
When operating the trim, it lowers slowly and raises VERY slowly all the while the pump squeals very loudly. Sounds like a hydraulic pump with air in the system. Fluid level is good. Oil looks good. No signs of air bubbles in fluid. I can't find any info on bleeding the system. Is this something that it may need?
When raising the unit, it raises so slowly that the switch will stop working until you bump it back down and then start raising it again. Kind of like a circuit breaker is kicking off/on. I can manually lift the outdrive while the wife operates the trim/trailer button and it will raise faster so it doesn't really seem to be binding on anything. It acts like there isn't enough hydraulic pressure to raise the unit and it's being assisted by gravity to lower it a little faster.
Any ideas on what I should check?

This isn't my first boat but it's the first time that I've ever had any trim problems.

Thanks for any help!

Sorry but all I can help you with is the cutting out. On my 74 the trim motor does have a thermal cutout switch.

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14a5.pdf

trim pump service link

if the oil tank is full normaly raiseing and lowering the drive would remove any air

you can crack the lines on the trim cylinders to bleed any air also just like brakes

after that theres a problem in the trim cylinders or pump which you should be able to find with the link

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14notice.pdf

tommays

If it's like mine, you have to leave the fill/ dipstick open one full turn from fully seated to properly vent. I was having the same problem and found my boats previous owner had closed it all the way.

Re: Trim Squeals & slow to raise/lower

Thanks for the responses! It seems as though it is gradually getting better and not squealing as much the more that I raise and lower the unit. It must be purging some of the air out of it, but I'll try the bleeding procedure in the link above before going any further and burning up the pump.
Thanks again!
