OK.Trim would not work this spring so I had the trim motor rebuilt. Put the motor in and the same thing happens......Nothing! I understand that if I hear a click then it is the solenoid. I don't hear a thing. I checked current while my boy pushed the buttons for up,down. I get power to the solenoid. Could this still be a bad solenoid. If so, should I replace both? This is on a 1985 3.0 merc with a Alpha 1 gen 1 out drive.
Thanks so much for the help

Hi..It happened to me and it was a ground not connected. It will not work without proper ground. It is not likely to have both solenoids at fault at the same time. I hope this helps!

I've been down that same road . . . what looked to be a mechanical problem turned out to be an electrical problem. I had to clean the connections both at the connector near the trim pump motor and up at the helm at the switches.
