Trim Sensors

I have a 1983 Merc Black Max 150. The trim gauge is not working. This motor has a sensor on each side and on one side the tab is broken. My question is this a magnetic sensor or is there a timing issue on the sensor for the gauge to read correctly. <br />Thanks

The trim sender provides a variable resistance to ground. The position of the sensor is adjustable so that you can calibrate it to your gage. I think that answers your question.
