Trim sensor and gauge

Hello, looking for help please. Have a VP
SX-A 1.60. I’ve replaced the trim sensor with aftermarket sensor. No matter what I do I can only get use of 3/4 of the gauge travel. It either works from full up to 3/4 the way down or from full down to 3/4 up (gauge needle travel). Am I doing something wrong or did I just get a sensor that is not up to specs. The part number I purchased is 21484383. It has not been in the water yet. Also trim worked fine til some type of animal chewed up the wiring along with the trim hoses. Thank you in advance.

I would remove the sensor from the drive while still connected electrically, then rotate the input while monitoring the gauge. Can you rotate the input so that the gauge needle moves full travel? If not, then the sensor isn't compatible with the gauge.

If you can get full travel, trim the drive all the way down, move the sensor so the gauge reads all the way down, then install the sensor in that position.
