I have a 1988 OMC 5.7L. The trim gauge has not worked since I got the boat earlier this year. I looked at the sending unit to adjust it, and, there is no adjusting it... Now..., the arm on the sending unit doesn't even touch the drive housing at all. I'm sure the previous owner just through something on to make it look better... Does anyone have a picture of what the arm on the unit mite look like?. I've also checked every boat place local to Detroit, no one has a replacement, is there a better place someone knows of to call?... Thanks for any help...

Re: Trim sending unit

You can rebuild the sender you have, but as far as the OMC Cobra drive goes, that is the only part that is currently NLA (no longer available). If you find one, you'll pay too much.

Just listen to your trim pump. It squeals/strains when you're at the stops, either way. That sender isn't worth the $250 you're going to have to pay to get one.

O.k... But... I think the problem is more in the unit has the wrong "arm" on it. The arm doesn't touch the drive at all, in full up, or full down... the censor sends a signal to the guage when I move it by hand, but, like I said, the arm doesn't touch the drive at all, so, it doesn't move when I use the trim... Is there a place I can get just the "arm"? I've tried everywhere local...and online.

There is an adjustment, the sender mounting points have slotted holes, the arm rides on the lower in an area thats very hard to see and it doesn't take much to throw it completely off.
