Trim, radio, iPhone electrical issue ........ Puzzled .......suggestions needed

I installed a new stereo system in my 2006 Tahoe Q4 in the off season. Kenwood KMR-355U, with helm and stern wired remotes and new infinity speakers. I chose the KMR355 because it had a USB port so I can stream music from my iphone and have function controls from the wired remotes. Everything worked flawless first trip out second trip this out I noticed anytime I adjusted the trim switch on the throttle while streaming via the USB port from my iPhone it would stop playing and would automatically restart after I stopped using the trim switch within a couple of seconds. It's like there is a electrical interference while trimming that interrupts the iPhone. Tried a different iPhone and got same issue so its not the phone. Tested with a meter and the voltage fluctuates 1/4 to 1/2 volt while trimming at the wiring harness into the radio. Also bypassed the terminal block and wired the radio directly from the battery with a jumper wire and still have the same problem. Any ideas or suggestions? Also considered a inline voltage regulator or capacitor to keep exact constant voltage?

Yes, try a 'noise suppressor' to see if that makes a difference. Sometimes a battery that is starting to age can show similar signs . . . but a small fluctuation in voltage that you are seeing does not seem bad at all.

Trim motors take a lot of current. Make sure the connection back at the starter solenoid is tight and clean. Trim motors can induce quite a bit of drop, especially at startup and you may not be able to see it fast enough with your meter.

I was also thinking a back EMF could be causing this as well but the more I think about that, the less I think its your issue.

A big capacitor in parallel with the stereo would likely solve your problem.

Probably. I would check connections first.

I had an problem where operating the trim was causing my engine to stall because my connections at my starter solenoid got slightly loose and I was getting a voltage drop for an instant. This may be a similar issue.

I assume when you say back EMF you are referring to back current coming the wrong way dropping voltage?

Thanks for all the suggestions it's not really that big of a deal as far as aggregation interrupting my music as a trim very little and once and awhile will bump the switch with my leg getting in and out of my seat........ My main concern is a underlying electrical problem I may be having affecting something much bigger.

I was actually thinking that it was increasing but I actually don't think it can happen here.

My main concern is a underlying electrical problem I may be having affecting something much bigger.

If the voltage drop is causing this issue, it could cause problems later down the road. Check your big connections like was suggested earlier. I would suggest takeing them loose if possible. Scrubbing them down with a wire brush. Scrub the terminals too if possible. Then remake the connections with a bit of electrical corrosion inhibiter.
