Re: Trim questions...

Trim is a critical control component. The wrong trim angle can make operation dangerous. Fix it or have it fixed.

However if you have the old stringer drive with SelecTrim, it's not nearly so critical as if you have a Cobra.

Re: Trim questions...

When a boat goes on plane the trim works to raise bow out of water to get more air under front of hull which in turn gives you more speed,
You should get it working because if your running fast and the front isnt trimmed up and the bow is plowing water it can be dangerous
With the bow down and plowing if a wake comes at you at the front of boat on an angle it will capsize the boat.
Or a big enough one directly in front will take a boat down.
there should be an electric motor on engine mount that is your trim.
The purpose of the large bellows in back of boat is when your trimming the whole engine and transom/Drive unit is moving up and down while trimming up or down

Re: Trim questions...

still looking for answer....thanks

You have not given any model numbers to be of much help. The word "Stringer" is a nick name really that has been loosely applied to a wide range of Model Years. If you believe you have a 400, that will put the model year into the late 70's and into the early 80's. The Model 400 would also have matched up with size engine you say you have. Although it won't positively ID the Drive, the Model year of the Boat may narrow down the Model year of the Drive. That would be a good start and may get you a few more responses.

Re: Trim questions...

Just saw your other post on the boot and chimed in there too. First, do you have the SelecTrim which uses a jackscrew at the front of the engine, or is it hydraulic, where the trim motor sits on top of the hydraulic pump on the side of the engine? Mine is a 1975 and has the hydraulic trim, but my manual shows the screw type. If you can find any numbers on the engine or drive, I'm sure someone here can tell you exactly what you've got. Lot's of great people here to learn from.
