Hope it's okay to put this here as it's a generic question.
I'm replacing the seals on my ETEC trim pump.
I bought 2 different seal kits under the same part number.
The outer seal in one kit comes with a spring that wraps around, the other doesn't, but it came with an o ring that fits in that groove.
I ripped the seal trying to slip the shaft through the seal with the spring in place.
I ripped the other seal trying to push the o ring into the groove after the shaft was slid through.
Thoughts on what seal is right or would both be okay? My original seal had no spring but I've heard they rust and fall out.
In the kit with the O-ring I see no way of getting the o ring into the groove after the shaft is slid through and it wont go on with the o ring in place. I'm wondering if maybe I was supposed to leave that out altogether?
If I try another seal with a spring, should I take the spring off, slide the shaft in and then put the spring on? I couldn't get that shaft through with the spring in place either but I should be able to slide the spring in place after the shaft is slid through.
Thanks for any advice!
