I have a 2006 tracker Pro Guide V16 w/75 HP Mercury...I was on a fishing trip and the boat was in the water tied to pier overnight. When I woke in the morning the motor was trimmed all the way up and the battery was dead. I tried charging the battery but it ended up being no good , so I replaced the battery. I went out on the water and as I was cruising along the motor started to trim up all by itself, I continued on and the motor continues to trim up as I'm driving. I disconnected the wire in the motor for the trim up on the throttle, and I have a trim button in the front of the boat and on the motor that still work just fine, but now I can't trim up on the throttle unless I hook the wire in the motor back which would cause it to trim up by itself. What could be causing this?????

Re: Trim problems

Possible bad relay. Try swapping them and see if problem goes to trimming the motor down.

Re: Trim problems

You said that you could disconnect one switch (on the handle) and the other switch would work the system correctly. Sounds to me like the switch on the throttle handle is shorting 12v to the up relay terminal.....happens on older switches and some that get moisture in them.

Re: Trim problems

Do you have a thumb toggle switch on the throttle arm? Those can get some water in them, which completes the "up" circuit. Blow it out or replace it, if it is the culprit.

Re: Trim problems

Thanks guys! I was thinking moisture too. Looks like I'll have to dig into it a bit, but wanted to get an idea of the problem before I started tearing it apart.
