trim problem

I have a 1993 searay 17' bowrider, 3.0 merc alpha 1. I was on the water today and started having a hickup w/ the trim up switch as I was getting up on plane, the trim down and the separate TRAILER switch works just fine, but the regular trim up had a symptom of cutting in and out and then stopped working all together. Is there a separate relay for the up switch since the trailer switch works, has the switch gone bad or do I just need to start chasing wires w/ the multimeter? it's the first time something like this has happened , can anybody help?

Your trim limit switch is probably gone, or wire corroded and snapped off.

Two black plastic capsules on both sides of the upper part of the outdrive.
