trim on outboard stuck

I've got an johnson 40 with gas assist trim and its stuck. I think it called a trim tube but you cant force it up or down . I ruled out the gas shock and have used a hole can of sil-krol with no luck<br /><br />Please help<br /><br />.................Sticky

Hey Sticky,<br />I don't know the year of your engine, but if it's what I'm thinking it has a cable that goes to a hyd. cyl. these were notarious for going bad or out of adjustment. It's only function is to open or block the hyd. fluid. If it's open you can raise or lower it. Once you determine where you want it turn the handle the other way and it locks the hyd. fluid keeping it there.<br />Hope this helps

almost retired again <br /><br />My motor is an '88 and I dont see any cable unless your talking about the lock on the side and it fine . Is there bearing at the trim tube or does it use the tube as a bushing and how hard is it to tear apart I think my problem is in this area<br /><br />.............Sticky
