Hello, I just got a new to me 74 islander. When I let the motor down it works, the up button does not work it only goes up when I push the up button and up-out button. Any ideas on where to start looking? Can I still use the boat like this without damaging anything? Thanks for any help.

Mine is the same way , alot of the older ones do that . mine does work sometimes but i trim it by pushing the two up trailer buttons to trim while under way. I would guess solenoids need service at pump or button needs looked at.
I will be looking at mine soon to see if i can fix.

I don't know I/O's that well, but most likely there's just 1 solenoid, switched on by either the trailer button or the trim up switch. Also could be a bad wire (had a bad wire in mine running from switch, switch was OK).

So, I'd start from the switch end. Bypass the switch by jumping wires together and see what happens.

Sounds like the outdrive trim limit switch is kaput.

I rewired mine to use one button for trimming up. I just have to be careful not to go too far (to the trailering position) when I'm running. I think the boat would porpoise too much long before I go too high.
