1976 Venture Bass boat, Mercruiser 140 i/o. Since sinking this boat I've had to solve one problem at a time then find another to solve. This is my first i/o so I'm still learning. We were lucky enough to be able to pull the boat up with a truck and a rope until the bilge pump and a 5 gallon bucket could get the hull emptied. I had to unload the engine and gas tank of all the water they swallowed. Just cleaned the carb & it is running fine now. However, I noticed that when I shift into reverse to back off the trailer the outdrive raises up. It used to not do this. Also, there is the oil line from the trim pump which connects to this switch looking thingy (can't think of the name of it) on top of the transom mount. It was leaking oil very bad and a new o'ring didn't take out all the play or fix the leak so I just disconnected this and ran it direct to the trim pump.... Is it maybe that I disconnected the reverse lock or do I have another problem? Afraid I might have damaged something when the lower unit was dragged on bottom as we pulled the boat to the surface.
