ive been searching around and cant seem to find an answer im looking for. my gauge stopped working this year and im working on figuring out the 2 sender switches on the outdrive. now my question is does one sender read trim up on the gauge and the other trim down? also when i trim all the way down or up (not trailer) the pump want to keep pumping if i hold it even though its all the way up or down,is there a switch that kills power to the pump when its at its travel limits?thanks

The trim limit is an on off switch, the gauge sender is a variable resistor.

Nothing stops the pump from running when all the way up or down.

so when does the trim limit switch come into play, when you are using the trailer switch to raise the unit? so the left side does the gauge and the right is the limiter or vice versa?

Starboard side is the gauge sender... (and has absolutely nothing to do with the pump operations or the limit switch. And visa versa.)

Port side is the limit switch. When the drive is down and you press UP, the limit switch will limit how far up the drive will come, usually about a 1/3 of the way to full up. That's to stop the drive coming out of the side support with the engine running. To tilt higher than the limit will allow, for trailering, you use the TRAILER button.

There is no cutoff switch for full UP or full DOWN. The trim rams just reach the end of their travel. If you keep the button pushed all you will end up doing is killing the pump or bursting a hose...

thanks for the info. need to see if my gauge is the problem or the sending unit. i guess i can hook up an ohm meter to the leads going into the gauge and cycle the trim to see if the sender works........? now im finding that they sell them together, cant i just replace the trim sender ?

Make sure you disconnect the wires and only use the resistance scale on the sender, not the gauge... or you'll blow up your meter...

No, the senders are a set... You can't buy them separately..
