trim limit/position sender wiring

The motor is a 3 litre 130hp and an alpha 1 outdrive, in a 1984 starcraft islander. The trim limit as well as trim position sender wires are cut (I just bought the boat so p.o. did the cutting) and are just hanging in the engine compartment. Since the wires look pretty ragged I would like to replace with new and am wondering if I can splice new onto the old and pull through the housing from the outside at the sender switches?
