Trim limit adjustment

My dash has no trim position indicator. I was just about to go out and set my trim limit & discovered one item of confusion. Does the position sensor system have anything to do with the limit switch?
My guess is maybe - so I'll put the position sender in the default position before doing the limit adjustment.
Am I on the right track?

Nope,... They're independent of each other....

OK, so I followed the manual but when I turned the limit switch the cylinders did not move. I had skipped the step of raising the drive using the trim switch. I then measured out the 21 3/4" ram limit and set the switch so the drive stops there. OK or no?
